Monterey Peninsula Airport Noise

Solutions to Reduce Monterey Peninsula Airport Noise

1. Restrict aircraft that exceed Stage 3 noise limits.

2. Adjust the takeoff procedures to lessen the noise impact on takeoff - no steep climb.

3. Enforce the curfew for arrivals and departures and no ground operations or engines run during curfew. No flights scheduled during curfew.

4. Use ground power units at all times on the ground - no APU.

5. Tow airplanes if they have to be moved after landing and before takeoff. Routine towing of airplanes at the Monterey Peninsula Airport would result in a significant reduction of noise and fumes. Left, jets being towed at Monterey Jet Center. Right, plane being towed in front of terminal. Sometimes they tow; usually they don't. They should be towed all the time.

6. Keep aircraft from flying over residential areas - 2,000 foot minimum above ground level. Adjust flight paths away from residential and commercial areas. Discontinue use of north inner landing loop and extend north landing loop further north and west to avoid residential areas and Laguna Grande and Roberts lakes which are federally protected fly over lakes for migrating birds.

7. Construct sound barriers for run up and jet waiting areas.

8. Restrict training flights in and around Monterey.

9. Impose a landing fee for general aviation.

10. Discontinue use of the Navy Flying Club runway (10L28R). Move the Navy Flying club to Marina or Salinas.

11. Write ordinances to implement these guidelines, assign a monitoring official, and include penalties for violations.
